What is a G-Sensor?
A G-Sensor is an accelerometer that registers values based on the amount of force applied during an impact. After reaching a pre-set value, the recorded footage is protected and moved into a folder that cannot be overwritten by any further footage you record, or by the standard auto-delete function on the Dash Cam. These values are set by your Dash Cam’s firmware upon installation.
The benefit
The benefit of having an inbuilt G-Sensor is if the vehicle was involved in an incident, the file would become protected automatically, ensuring the image wouldn’t be overwritten by the standard auto-delete function on the Dash Cam.
When activated
When the G-Sensor had been activated, the padlock will appear in the center of the screen, indicating to the driver that the file is being locked. This gives the driver extra peace of mind in knowing that this important footage is stored safely for later viewing.
Triggered by other conditions
Other factors can also trigger the G-Sensor, such as uneven pavement, heavy acceleration and braking, or speed bumps. This can be useful in protecting footage, but the G-Sensor setting can be adjusted depending on the driving environment.
How to Calibrate a Dash Cam G-Sensor
You can easily calibrate, adjust, or turn off the G-Sensor via the video menu option on the Dash Cam. A higher G-force setting equates to a higher sensitivity setting, which protects more files.
